Torn & Glasser Recalls Pistachio Products Because of Possible Health Risk

April 21, 2009 – Torn & Glasser of Los Angeles, CA is recalling various products containing pistachios because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. These recalled pistachios, supplied by Setton Pistachio, were distributed to Torn & Glasser. Setton Pistachio has initiated a recall of pistachios for its entire 2008 crop as it continues to investigate the potential for its pistachios to be contaminated by Salmonella. In light of these developments Torn & Glasser is undertaking this recall.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more serious illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

This product was distributed through wholesalers and cash customer sales. These were sold in CA, AZ, CO, TX, MO, MD, PA, HI, UT, NJ,NE, NV, NM, OK, IL and LA.

Cartons bearing Torn & Glasser case labels sold between September 01, 2008 and April 8, 2009 with Julian codes between 2448 and 3658 and 0019 and 0979 included in the recall are as follows:
