April 17, 2009 –The Peanut Shop of Williamsburg is voluntarily recalling certain pistachio products because they may have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

The Peanut Shop of Williamsburg has initiated this voluntary recall as part of the expanded Setton International Foods, Inc.

Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e. infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

The products have been distributed to retail stores nationwide and direct home delivery through mail order. A list of affected products, lot numbers and Best if Used by Dates is listed below. The lot number or Best if Used by Date is located on the bottom of the cans and on the surface of the bags. This recall covers items packaged under The Peanut Shop of Williamsburg or The Peanut Shop brands.
