Superior Nut and Candy is Voluntary Recalling Their Products Containing Pistachios

Chicago, IL. - April 14, 2009 --- Superior Nut and Candy. of Chicago, Illinois, manufactured nut products which contain pistachios supplied by Setton Pistachio and also distributed pistachio products purchased from Setton Pistachio. Superior Nut and Candy is voluntary recalling their products containing pistachios because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. Salmonella is an organism, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e. infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis. The pistachio products were sold and distributed by Superior Nut and Candy nationwide, through email orders, phone orders and faxed orders.

No illnesses have been reported to us to date.

Superior Nut and Candy became aware of the recall by Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, California through recent press releases.
