– Northfield, IL – April 18, 2009 - As a follow up to the expanded voluntary recall of roasted in-shell pistachios supplied by Setton Farms of Terra Bella, Inc, Ross Nut Co is voluntary recalling this product as a precautionary measure as the product may have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

Ross Nut Co. has not received any reports of any customer becoming infected with Salmonella.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

The products subject to the voluntary recall are in-shell pistachios shipped to customers from Ross Nut Co. between December 1, 2008 and April 3, 2009. The products were shipped in the following types of packaging:

White or Red Paper bags (2 lb and 4 ½ lb) 8 oz cellophane bags in gift boxes White or Gold Tins (12 oz; 1 lb, 3 oz; 1 lb, 8 oz; 3 lb; 3 ½ lb; 3 lb, 12 oz; 7 lb; 12 ½ lb)

Consumers should cease use and dispose of any recalled product that has not already been consumed.
