R.U. Nuts Company RECALLS Roasted Salted Pistachios BECAUSE OF POSSIBLE HEALTH RISK-Limited Distribution to Nebraska, Kansas, and Iowa

April 16, 2009 --- R.U. Nuts Company of Lincoln, NE announced today that it is voluntarily recalling the following items as a precautionary measure because the product has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella:

• Roasted Salted Pistachios 5oz Package
• Roasted Salted Pistachios 10oz Standup Pouch
• Roasted Salted Pistachios 2.50Lb Large Tub
• Roasted Salted Pistachios 0.75 lb. Small Tub

These products contain roasted, salted in-shell pistachios which were supplied by Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, Inc. Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella expanded their recall of roasted shelled and in-shell pistachios April 6, 2009 to include all 2008 crop pistachio products that it has shipped to date.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

Roasted Salted Pistachios were distributed primarily to Nebraska with one customer in both Kansas and Iowa.

Range of affected lot numbers include:

Lot #279008 to #365008 AND Lot #001009 to #098009

No illnesses have been reported to date.
