Pleasantville NY – April 9, 2009 -- QSP, Inc. Pleasantville, NY, is voluntarily recalling one code date of Pleasantville Farms 7.5 oz In Shell Pistachios packed in pop top cans because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. This recall is in response to the voluntarily recall of pistachios announced by Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, Inc. on April 6, 2009.
Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis. Product involved in the recall is Pleasantville Farms 7.5 oz Pistachios packed in pop top cans, UPC number 79113-41802 with a best buy date of 10/15/09. The best by date may be found on the bottom of the can. Only product with this code is affected. No illnesses have been reported to-date in relation to this product.
This product is distributed by schools and other organizations as part of fundraising programs. The product has been distributed nationwide.
