Knouse Foods, Inc. Announces Recall of Apple Sauce in Glass Jars

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – June 11, 2009 - Peach Glen, PA - Knouse Foods, Inc. announced today that effective immediately, they have decided to voluntarily recall apple sauce (23.5 and 25 oz glass jars only) with the following Best By Dates for these specific UPC Codes:

The reason for the recall is that we have received reports of imperfections on the outer rim of the glass jars received from one of our suppliers which may chip when the lid is removed on jars with these Best By Dates.  Knouse Foods has not received any reports of injuries or illness associated with the above products.  

As a food processor, Knouse Foods, Inc. takes safety very seriously and we have already advised our customers to remove existing product from store shelves with the Best By date listed above. 

Additionally, at this time we are advising consumers not to consume product with the specific Best By date listed above.  Consumers may return purchased product to the store where purchased for a refund/exchange in accordance with store policy.

Knouse Foods is conducting a thorough examination of this product to determine the exact cause and extent of the problem, and has secured the assistance of the Food & Drug Administration as well.

Thus far we have identified and isolated the facility at which the glass jars were manufactured. We are working closely with our glass supplier on this issue and have placed a ‘hold’ on any additional shipping of this product.
