Kamdar Plaza, Inc. issues a voluntary recall of Raw Pistachio Kernels and Roasted and Salted Pistachios

Chicago, IL – April15, 2009 – Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella Inc. has issued a voluntary pistachio recall due to potential Salmonella contamination.  As a precautionary measure, Kamdar Plaza, Inc., which received shipments of Raw Pistachio Kernels and Roasted and Salted Pistachios from Setton, has decided to voluntarily recall them, which were sold in Chicago at Kamdar Plaza from September 2008 through March 31, 2009. 

Kamdar Plaza, Inc. has not received any reports of illness related to this product.

The affected product was packaged and sold under the following items:  

  1. 8 oz. Polythane Bag of Kamdar Plaza Raw Pistachio Kernels
  2. 1 lb.  Polythane Bag of Kamdar Plaza Raw Pistachio Kernels
  3. 1 lb.  Polythane Bag of Kamdar Plaza Roasted and Salted Pistachios

Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.  Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.  In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more sever illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e. infected aneurysms) endocarditis and arthritis.
