Ricci & Company of Chicago, Il. is voluntarily recalling the following products supplied to us by Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, CA.  This press release is an update from our earlier press release of April 16, 2009.  The following 2 items are the only items included in the recall upon further investigation.

ROASTED AND SALTED NATURAL IN SHELL PISTACHIOS
RAW  SHELLED PISTACHIOS

This voluntary recall is being conducted as a precautionary measure because the above products have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea ( which may be bloody) nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with salmonella can result in organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e. infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

This recall is a precautionary measure, as Ricci & Company has not received any reports of illness.  Ricci & Company became aware of the expanded voluntary recall by Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, CA through recent press releases.

Consumers who purchased pistachios from 11/17/2008 to 4/4/09 and still have these products on hand, please return to point of purchase for refund or exchange.
